   Trichology

Trichology is taken from the Greek word "Trikhos", meaning hair. It is the branch of medicine that focuses on hair, its anatomy, growth and diseases. It also involves in-depth study of chemistry.

There are specialists for every area of the human body; neurologists – brain, podiatrist – feet, etc. Trichologists specialize in conditions of the hair and scalp and often detect the first visible signs of any imbalance in both adults and children, so trichology is a very necessary profession that has its place in medical treatment. Trichology is a para-medical science, a highly specialised but limited area of dermatology incorporating the hair, scalp and beard area.

Hair reflects body imbalances very quickly, microscopy is used as an aid to reach a diagnosis in the following ways;

  •  Shows any restricted growth of the hair bulbs
  •  Able to assess any structural damage to the hair
  •  Determine the presence of a fungal infection
  •  Confirms Pediculosis Capitis
  •  The severity of Alopecia Areata
  •  Nutritional deficiencies
  •  Inherited hair shaft disorders
